Mine That Bird

Mine That Bird returned to training today at his home in Roswell, NM. Although no date has been set for his return to racing, this morning marked the beginning of his training for the 2010 racing season.

Co-owner Mark Allen commented that the "Bird" was rested and healthy.

We look forward to you questions and comments .......

  1. Looking forward to the Bird's 2010 season. We are hoping his schedule includes the June 12, Stephen Foster at Churchill Downs! We are planning to be there and hope to see him if he runs! BTW loved the picture of the "Bird Bath" on the website!-LS

  4. I hope some good author has asked and received permission to write up MTB's story leading up to the 135th Kentucky Derby. It's truly as interesting, worthy, and exciting of other's that have been memorialized in books/movies. It's another Cinderella "feel good" story.

  5. Will you have a webcam for him again? He was such a character last year. I would love to see him knocking over his rakes and pulling down his hay.

  6. Followed Mine That Bird all year in 2009, and even followed him to the All American Futurity. Class connections and I hope the entire story makes it to the big screen some day. I would like to thank both Chip Wooley & Mark Allen for being gracious enough at Ruidoso Downs to take pictures with our 8 year old daughter. We made a photo album and it is something we will all cherish for the rest of our lives. Good luck to Mine That Bird and his connections in 2010. Thanks for all the memories!

  12. I don't know about a web-cam again, I guess we'll see.

There is a good story in the El Paso Times about the BIRD and the Sunland Derby, You can read it on page 8 of the main site.

He is a "BIG" little horse and will bring you some great racing this year - stay tuned.

  14. Awww, so glad to know The Bird has his own blog! I second the requests for a stallcam. I was glued to that thing. Bird is such a cool "Little Big Hoss" with SO much TB-tude. I don't have a Thoroughbred of my own any more and I miss the challenge of it. Please give Mr. Bird my best!

  20. Love this blog and love the "Bird". He seems like such a happy horse. I do hope that maybe he could visit Monmouth Park in NJ. That would give me a chance to see him in person. He has many fans in the east. Looking forward to his 2010 campaign. Kudos to Chip and his owners.

  22. I belong to a website called "Fans of Barbaro" and I was just so happy that many of my "Barbaro Famblee" are very much in love with our "little brown horse that could" from New Mexico. We look foward to Mine That Bird racing again and many of them are hoping that he will be going out east again to race...they really want so see him and so would I. Maybe someday...I live in Albuquerque.

    GO MINE THAT BIRD!!!!

  23. Thank you for this blog! Hoping this will be a way to keep up with Mine That Bird's doings...I search so often for any word of him. Would've loved to see some pictures/video of him spending the winter just "being a horse." He sure deserved his vacation!

This little guy brought me home to my love of horses/racing. His KY Derby was the most phenomenal run I ever saw; and no matter where he goes from here or however well he races, he will always be a Champion.

Looking forward to all the Birdie News!

  27. Mr. Allen, Chip and "The Bird" are a class act. Kudos to the little guy, will be watching him this season and hopefully it will be a great year for him. Win or lose makes no difference just know he is being followed one way or the other and stays safe is all that is asked of him.

  30. I thought I was his BIGGEST fan but I have a lot of competition here I see. I was glued to the webcam last year, so I will be thrilled if we get to watch you again. You just ooze personality! I'm waiting to make some travel plans to see you. Race safe my favorite!

  32. I just read on DRF that Chip might be replaced as Birdie's trainer by DW Lukas. How would that be a good move? Say it ain't so...

  33. Most mornings I watch Mine that Bird on Youtube ..that Derby win so wonderful. All good things for this great champion..love you..Candace Serviss

  34. Please say Chip is not going to be replaced as MTB's trainer. Granted, I'm on the outside looking in but you could see Chip and MTB really love each other. I cannot imagine ANYONE else training this horse. Please don't let their story together end here :(

  35. Where is Mine that Bird's trainer? Is MTB still in training?

    ReplyDelete
  36. I just heard the news about Mine that Bird's new trainer. How sad for Chip. No further comment!

  37. Very disappointing. Will follow but not with as much enthusiasm as '09. What a pitiful shame. Got to stick with those who got you there. Kind of reminds me of Jimmy Johnson & the Dallas Cowboys back in the mid-'90's. I knew it wasn't you Mr. Allen when I heard the rumor, & my conjecture was proven correct in media reports this week. Hope you & Chip have a great racing year in 2010. Wish MTB well & a long racing career.

  38. I love MTB!! He was just exhausted during the latter 2009 races but that doesn't tarnish his real talent he showed in the three Triple Crown Races. Take good care of him and he will have a long and successful career.
